Ghana ThinkTank in Shenzen, China (2011)
For the 2011 Hong Kong / Shenzen Biennial, Ghana ThinkTank assembled paid to have assembled had people paid to assemble a sort of octagonal wooden tube meant to be a knock off of a pneumatic fender for a shipping freighter, clad in 32 chained tires. In each tire sits a screen with closely cropped videos of Chinese citizens voicing their problems. On the tail-end visitors can add their own problems to the mix through a video booth programmed by Kevin Patton. The pod is surrounded by satellites presenting every other city Ghana ThinkTank has worked in.

Translation: “I got old and so will you.” Funny, Dirty memories as told by the elderly, recorded on MP3 players and presented to young people. Action based on solution from the think tank in Iran.
LEGAL WAITING ZONE: Fake municipal sign hung in the OCT district of Shenzen, China. Translation: “You have the right to wait here, and in all public places, for your mom, your girlfriend, or simply because it is too hot in your apartment.”
Translation: “Please explain the difference between the cop’s world and the real world.” Action based on a Prison Think Tank solution.
